Tropical paradise in North JutlandThe palm beach in the northern part of Fredrikshavn started as a creative (some called it crazy) idea back in 2004. Shortly after the idea was presented, the city council granted fundings to realise this exotic beach dream up here at the top of Denmark. The palm beach (Palmestranden) was an immediate success and the year after augmented with more palms and beach volleyball courts. There is an outdoor “kitchen” for public use on the beach. Here you can have private parties, as long as you respect the other beach guests. What to do at the palm beachPalmestranden / Palm beach is very close to Frederikshavn Golf Club (about 3 km). Other golf courses in the region are Sæby Golf Club, Sindal Golf Club and Hvide Klit Golf Club. Do not forget to visit the centre of Frederikshavn and one of Denmark’s longest pedestrian streets. Along the street, and in its side streets, you will find many different kinds of shops, a diversity of restaurants and cosy cafés. And, the kids will love a day at either the huge indoor play area Fun House or the indoor “Caribbean” water park (The Reef). From Frederikshavn there are ferries to Læsø, Sweden and Norway – and going with the post boat (SeaDog) you can visit Hirsholmene, a small cluster of islets just east of Frederikshavn. |
