The environmental logo, "the green key", is considered the world's leading environmental certification in connection with overnight accommodation.

A cottage with environmental certification gives your holiday the additional quality of staying in environmentally friendly surroundings. You will also be making an active contribution to looking after what is an important part of your holiday experience.

The holiday cottages are generally located in natural areas close to the coast that are sensitive to environmental stress. That’s why we encourage both owners and tenants to look after the environment and use resources carefully.

Some of our owners are committed to protecting the environment and have joined the “Green Key” scheme. A holiday cottage has to satisfy at least five of the nine possible environmental protection criteria:

Compulsory criteria:

Non-toxic land
In order to prevent the groundwater from becoming polluted and out of consideration for the animal kingdom, no chemicals or inorganic fertilisers must be used on the land.

Waste sorting
It must be possible to sort waste and, for example, collect glass and paper separately.

Cleaning
Only environmentally friendly cleaners may be used. The cottage only contains environmentally friendly cleaners.

Saving water
The cottage has water-saving bathroom fittings. The toilet uses no more than 7 litres of water per flush.

Low heating requirement
The house is insulated for occupation during the winter. When rented out during the cold season it must be possible to control room temperature with the help of thermostats.

Optional criteria:

No smoking
The house has not been smoked in since it was last cleaned thoroughly and painted. If the smoking ban is not complied with, the tenant has to pay the costs of a full clean, including washing and ironing the curtains.

Light and airy
No unhealthy building materials have been used in the cottage and all the rooms can be ventilated.

Solar heating
This means that either the domestic water for the cottage or the air used for ventilation is heated by means of solar power.

Low electricity consumption
The electrical appliances in the cottage are no more than 5 years old. Their electricity consumption complies with EU energy rating A-C.
